Joseph Crutcher, D.H.Sc.
Dr. Joseph Crutcher is the Manager of the Simulation and Education Center and the Van Elslander Surgical Innovation Center at Ascension Providence Hospital in Southfield and Novi, Michigan. He holds a doctorate in Academic Health Sciences from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and masters' degrees in both Adult Education and Measurement and Evaluation.
Dr. Crutcher has been active in academic simulation for over fifteen years. His experiences range from the development of a simulation of an exit procedure in obstetrics involving six physicians and thirty-one OR staff to “pick-offs” of unresponsive climbers while suspending several hundred feet above the ground in the mountains of Colorado. Currently, he oversees two simulation labs serving primarily residents and practicing physicians. Although he is actively involved in several research projects, his personal research interest resides in the modeling of latent traits.
